Hand-signed A4 print on 220gsm white parchment.
Louis XIV, also known as the “Sun King” was the longest-reigning monarch in French history. He reigned over a period of unprecedented prosperity, ushering in a golden age of art, literature and science. He centralised power in the monarchy, bringing it to its peak of absolute power and thus establishing France as the most dominant force in Europe from 1643 until his death in 1715. Whilst he had many political and wartime achievements, it is his awe-inspiring palace – Versailles – that he is best known for. He designed and built this lavish residence, and moved his entire court and the nobility there in 1682. His dazzling royal court is legendary and to this day leaves a lasting impression of the luxuriant and opulent life he lived.
